Nagoya International Women´s Marathon has roots back to 1980, where it originally was held as a 20 km road race. In 1984 it became a marathon for women, that takes place annually. Nagoya is the fourth most populous city in Japan.

In 2011 Nagoya Marathon was cancelled due to the earthquake. It was opened to the public for the first time in 2012. Around 15.000 women participated.
